Holy Great Martyr Katherine, daughter of Governor Konstos, sought a spouse who surpassed her in nobility, wealth, comeliness, and wisdom. Guided by a saintly Elder, she yearned to see the Heavenly Bridegroom. After baptism and visions, she embraced Christianity. Katherine confronted Emperor Maximian, converting philosophers and aiding Christian martyrs. Despite temptations and tortures, she remained steadfast. Miracles occurred, leading Empress Augusta, Porphyrios, and 200 soldiers to convert. Katherine was ultimately beheaded for her faith. May her prayers be with us all.
St. Verena was known for her acts of service, especially those of helping the sick, wounded, and was also known for her focus on young girls whom she taught hygiene and became a spiritual mentor. She was close friends with St. Maurice of the Theban Legion. After St. Maurice was martyred she chose to live in a small cave in present day Switzerland. Near the time of her departure, the Theotokos appeared to her to console her and tell her about the date of her departure. May her prayers be with us all amen.
