On the Second Sunday of the blessed month of Paona, the church commemorates the healing of the paralytic man and his four friends (Luke 5:17-26).

In this story, the immense crowds surround Christ to listen to His words and receive healing. The crowd was so large that many could not reach Him, which was the case for this paralytic man. The man had four friends who carried him, and when they could not reach Christ, they climbed to the roof, raised the man, and slowly lowered him into the middle of the crowd where our Lord was. Christ healed the man’s body and soul by telling him to “pick up your bed and walk” and saying to him, “Your sins are forgiven you.”

St. Cyril of Alexandria explains, “When the Savior says to him, “Man, your sins are forgiven you,” he addresses this to humankind in general. For those who believe in him, being healed of the diseases of the soul, will receive forgiveness of the sins which they formerly committed. He may also mean this: “I must heal your soul before I heal your body.” “

Christ not only seeks to heal our bodies but also to heal the maladies and sickness of our souls.

To Him be the glory.
